Words of Welcome: Rev. John Hill

Prelude: “O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus” Caleb Dinger, Piano, Paige Dinger Trumpet

Call to Worship: Mark Hattan
May God our Maker hear our praises on this day.
Come, let us worship our Creator.
May Jesus Christ extend to us a hand of love and grace.
Come, let us worship our Redeemer.
May the Holy Spirit join us in this place and inspire us.
Come, let us worship our Sustainer.

Hymns: “Our God Saves” and “The Bond of Love”Our God SavesIn the name of the Father, in the name of the Son,
In the name of the Spirit, Lord we come
We’re gathered together to lift up Your name
To call on our Savior, to fall on Your grace
Hear the joyful sound of our offering
As Your saints bow down, as Your people sing
We will rise with You, lifted on Your wings
And the world will see that

Our God saves, our God saves
There is hope in Your name
Mourning turns to songs of praise
Our God saves, our God saves

In the name of the Father, in the name of the Son,
In the name of the Spirit, Lord we come.
We’re gathered together to lift up Your name
To call on our Savior, to fall on Your grace.
Hear the joyful sound of our offering
As Your saints bow down, as Your people sing
We will rise with You, lifted on Your wings
And the world will see that

Our God saves, our God saves
There is hope in Your name
Mourning turns to songs of praise
Our God saves, our God saves

Our God saves, our God saves
There is hope in Your name
Mourning turns to songs of praise
Our God saves, our God saves

The Bond of Love
Love through Christ has brought
us together,
Melting our hearts as one.
By God’s Spirit we are united,
One through the
blessed Son.

We are one in the bond of love.
We are one in the bond of love.
We have joined our spirit
With the Spirit of God.
We are one in the bond of love

Now dear Lord we join in worship,
Thank You for all You’ve done.
Thank You for this love You gave us,
Thank You for making us one.

Let us sing now everyone,
Let us feel God’s
love begun.
Let us join our hands,
So the world will know
We are one in the bond of love.

We are one in the bond of love.
We are one in the bond of love.
We have joined our spirit
With the Spirit of God.
We are one in the bond of loveOpening Prayer: Mark Hattan
God of all wisdom, you have revealed yourself to us through the Bible and have promised that all scripture is inspired by you – even the parts we ignore or overlook. Open our hearts and minds to the instruction and encouragement from these Little Letters that we may keep ourselves in the love of God and walk in the Truth. Amen.
Scripture Reading:  3 John 1-15: Mark Hattan The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth. Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, just as it is well with your soul. I was overjoyed when some of the friends arrived and testified to your faithfulness to the truth, namely, how you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my children are walking in the truth. Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you do for the friends, even though they are strangers to you; they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on in a manner worthy of God; for they began their journey for the sake of Christ, accepting no support from non-believers. Therefore we ought to support such people, so that we may become co-workers with the truth. I have written something to the church; but Diotrephes, who likes to put himself first, does not acknowledge our authority. So if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing in spreading false charges against us. And not content with those charges, he refuses to welcome the friends, and even prevents those who want to do so and expels them from the church. Beloved, do not imitate what is evil but imitate what is good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God. Everyone has testified favorably about Demetrius, and so has the truth itself. We also testify for him, and you know that our testimony is true. I have much to write to you, but I would rather not write with pen and ink; instead I hope to see you soon, and we will talk together face to face. Peace to you. The friends send you their greetings. Greet the friends there, each by name.Sermon: Little Letters – 3 John: Rev. John Hill

Offertory Anthem: Where Charity and Love Prevail
Caleb Dinger, Instrumentalist Hailee Hunt-Hawkins, VocalistWhere Charity and Love PrevailWhere charity and love prevail,
there God is ever found;
Brought here together by Christ’s love,
by love are we thus bound. With grateful joy and holy fear
true charity we learn;
Let us with heart and mind and soul
now love Christ in return.Forgive we now each other’s faults
as we our faults confess;
And let us love each other well
in Christian holiness.Let strife among us be unknown,
let all contention cease;
Be Christ the glory that we seek,
be ours his holy peace.Let us recall that in our midst
dwells God’s begotten Son;
As members of his body joined,
we are in him made one.Love can exclude no race or creed,
if honored be God’s name;
Our common life embraces all
whose Maker is the same.Prayer of Confession: Rev. John Hill
God of love, you have ordered the world and invited us to share in its goodness and beauty as a beloved community, but our pride, greed, selfishness, and apathy have kept us from flourishing. We have not followed your precepts. We have robbed others of their dignity and seen them as means to an end. We have put ourselves first and hurt one another. And we have abandoned you and your ways. Forgive us through your great mercy and empower us to walk as people of the light, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Silence for Personal Prayers of Confession

Kyrie

Words of Assurance
Hear the Good News: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. That proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
Glory to God! Amen.

Closing Hymn:  Jesu, JesuJesu, Jesu
Fill us with your love,
Show us how to serve
the neighbors we have from you.

Kneels at the feet of his friends,
Silently washes their feet,
Master who acts as a slave to them.

Jesu, Jesu
Fill us with your love,
Show us how to serve
the neighbors we have from you.

Neighbors are rich and poor
Neighbors are black and white,
Neighbors are near and far away.

Jesu, Jesu
Fill us with your love,
Show us how to serve
the neighbors we have from you.

These are the ones we should serve
These are the ones we should love,
All these are neighbors to us and you.

Jesu, Jesu
Fill us with your love,
Show us how to serve
the neighbors we have from you.

Loving puts us on our knees,
Serving as though we are slaves,
This is the way we should live with you.

Jesu, Jesu
Fill us with your love,
Show us how to serve
the neighbors we have from you.

Kneel at the feet of our friends,
Silently washing their feet,
This is the way we should live with you.

Jesu, Jesu
Fill us with your love,
Show us how to serve
the neighbors we have from you.
 Benediction: Rev. John Hill
