John Hill Prelude: “I Shall See” Call to Worship: Lynn Whitener May God our Maker hear our praises on this day. Come, let us worship our Creator. May Jesus Christ extend to us a hand of love and grace. Come, let us worship our Redeemer. May the Holy Spirit join us in this place and inspire us. Come, let us worship our Sustainer. Hymns: “My Hope is Built” and “By Faith” My Hope is BuiltMy hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. Refrain On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand. When Darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace. In every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil. Refrain On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand. His oath, his covenant, his blood support me in the whelming flood. When all around my soul gives way, he then is all my hope and stay. Refrain On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand. When he shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in him be found! Dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne! Refrain On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand. By Faith By faith we see the hand of God, In the light of creation’s grand design. In the lives of those who prove His faithfulness Who walk by faith, and not by sight By faith our fathers roamed the earth, With the power of His promise in their hearts. Of a holy city built by God’s own hand, A place where peace and justice reign. We will stand as children of the promise. We will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward. Till the race is finished and the work is done, We’ll walk by faith and not by sight By faith the prophets saw a day, When the longed-for Messiah would appear. With the power to break the chains of sin and death, And rise triumphant from the grave. By faith the church was called to go, In the power of the Spirit to the lost. To deliver captives and to preach good news, In every corner of the earth. We will stand… By faith this mountain shall be moved And the power of the gospel shall prevail For we know in Christ all things are possible For all who call upon His name We will stand as children of the promise. We will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward. Till the race is finished and the work is done We’ll walk by faith and not by sight We will stand as children of the promise We will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward Till the race is finished and the work is done, We’ll walk by faith and not by sight. We’ll walk by faith and not by sight. Opening Prayer: Lynn Whitener God of all wisdom, you have revealed yourself to us through the Bible and have promised that all scripture is inspired by you – even the parts we ignore or overlook. Open our hearts and minds to the instruction and encouragement from these Little Letters that we may keep ourselves in the love of God and walk in the Truth. Amen.Scripture Reading: Jude 3-4; 17-25: Lynn WhitenerBeloved, while eagerly preparing to write to you about the salvation we share, I find it necessary to write and appeal to you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. For certain intruders have stolen in among you, people who long ago were designated for this condemnation as ungodly, who pervert the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. But you, beloved, must remember the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; for they said to you, ‘In the last time there will be scoffers, indulging their own ungodly lusts.’ It is these worldly people, devoid of the Spirit, who are causing divisions. But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God; look forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. And have mercy on some who are wavering; save others by snatching them out of the fire; and have mercy on still others with fear, hating even the tunic defiled by their bodies. Now to him who is able to keep you from falling, and to make you stand without blemish in the presence of his glory with rejoicing, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority, before all time and now and for ever. Amen.Sermon: Little Letters – Jude: Rev. John Hill Instrumental Reflection: “Please Be My Strength“ Pastoral Prayer: Rev. John Hill The Lord’s Prayer Invitation to Offer Tithes and Gifts: Rev. John Hill https://onrealm.org/CrievewoodUMC/Give Offertory Anthem: “I Stand Amazed in the Presence” Caleb Dinger, Instrumentalist Hailee Hunt-Hawkins, Vocalist Prayer of Confession: Rev. John Hill God of love, you have ordered the world and invited us to share in its goodness and beauty as a beloved community, but our pride, greed, selfishness, and apathy have kept us from flourishing. We have not followed your precepts. We have robbed others of their dignity and seen them as means to an end. We have put ourselves first and hurt one another. And we have abandoned you and your ways. Forgive us through your great mercy and empower us to walk as people of the light, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Silence for Personal Prayers of Confession Kyrie Words of Assurance Hear the Good News: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. That proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Glory to God! Amen. Closing Hymn: The Church’s One FoundationThe church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord; she is his new creation by water and the Word. From heaven he came and sought her to be his holy bride; with his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died. Elect from every nation, yet one o’er all the earth; her charter of salvation, one Lord, one faith, one birth; one holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food, and to one hope she presses, with every grace endued. Though with a scornful wonder we see her sore oppressed, by schisms rent asunder, by heresies distressed, yet saints their watch are keeping; their cry goes up, “How long?” And soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song. Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war, she waits the consummation of peace forevermore; till, with the vision glorious, her longing eyes are blest, and the great church victorious shall be the church at rest. Yet she on earth hath union with God the Three in One, and mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won. O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with thee. Benediction: Rev. John Hill |
