 Words of Welcome  Rev. John Hill

Centering Music:”We Will Stand” Caleb Dinger, Piano

Call to Worship  Tandy Taylor
God is calling us to create a community where everyone is welcome
Community Happens Here
For us, community means…
A place to belong
A place to be loved
A place to engage
A place to serve
A place to grow

Hymn: “We Gather Together“
We gather together
to ask the Lord’s blessing;
he chastens and hastens
his will to make known.
The wicked oppressing
now cease from distressing.
Sing praises to his name,
he forgets not his own.

Beside us to guide us,
our God with us joining,
ordaining, maintaining
his kingdom divine;
so from the beginning
the fight we were winning;
thou, Lord, wast at our side,
all glory be thine!

We all do extol thee,
thou leader triumphant,
and pray that thou still
our defender wilt be.
Let thy congregation
escape tribulation;
thy name be ever praised!
O Lord, make us free!

Hymn: “Great Are You Lord“
Verse
You give life; you are love.
You bring light to the darkness.
You give hope; you restore
every heart that is broken.
And great are you Lord.

Chorus
It’s your breath in our lungs,
So we pour out our praise;
We pour out our praise.
It’s your breath in our lungs,
So we pour out our praise to you only.

Verse
You give life; you are love.
You bring light to the darkness.
You give hope; you restore
every heart that is broken.
And great are you, Lord.

(Chorus)
It’s your breath in our lungs,
So we pour out our praise;
We pour out our praise.
It’s your breath in our lungs,
So we pour out our praise to you only.

Bridge (2x)
And all the earth will shout your praise
Our hearts will cry; these bones will sing
Great are you Lord

(Chorus)
It’s your breath in our lungs,
So we pour out our praise;
We pour out our praise.
It’s your breath in our lungs,
So we pour out our praise to you only.

Statement of Identity  Tandy Taylor
Rooted in our understanding of the nature of the Triune God as existing in eternal community, the human need for connection and community, the way that God is present and works through Christian community, and Crievewood’s ministry throughout its history with the Crieve Hall community, Crievewood United Methodist Church seeks to create a community where everyone has a place to belong, be loved, engage, serve, and grow: “Community Happens Here.”

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 10:23-25  Tandy Taylor
“Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful. And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Sermon: “Community Happens Here” Rev. John Hill

Instrumental Reflection: “En Communidad“

Pastoral Prayer  Rev. John Hill

Offertory Anthem:  “Open Up” Caleb Dinger, Piano/Vocals; Hailee Hunt-Hawkins, Vocals

You heard the cry of our hearts,
And you came down.
Freely you gave us your love,
Showing us how.

Make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred let me sow love.
Where there is darkness let me shine light, and

May your love cause us to open up.
Cause us to open up our hearts.
May your light cause us to shine so bright
That we bring hope into the dark.

All that we do without love,
It means nothing.
Grant us the courage to give
As you’re calling.

Make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred let me sow love.
Where there is darkness let me shine light, and

May your love cause us to open up.
Cause us to open up our hearts.
May your light cause us to shine so bright
That we bring hope into the dark.

Hope for the hopeless, your love is
strength in our weakness. Your love is.
May we love, as you love.
May we love, as you love.

May your love cause us to open up.
Cause us to open up our hearts.
May your light cause us to shine so bright
That we bring hope into the dark.

Prayer of Confession Rev. John Hill
God of covenant and companionship, you have called us to create a beloved community where all people have a place to flourish. Yet we know that many feel isolated and live in despair. Forgive us where we have failed to welcome the stranger, to love the outcast, to get to know our neighbor, to serve those in need, and to teach our children. Grant us the grace to become the community you would have us to be, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Kyrie

Words of Assurance Rev. John Hill
Hear the Good News: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. That proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
Glory to God. Amen.

Closing Hymn: “Blest Be the Tie that Binds“
Blest be the tie that binds
our hearts in Christian love;
the fellowship of kindred minds
is like to that above.

Before our Father’s throne
we pour our ardent prayers;
our fears, our hopes, our aims are one,
our comforts and our cares.

We share each other’s woes,
our mutual burdens bear;
and often for each other flows
the sympathizing tear.

When we asunder part,
it gives us inward pain;
but we shall still be joined in heart,
and hope to meet again
