Worship Order
Words of Welcome: Rev. Chelsey Hedglin

Centering Music:  We Have Been Told: Caleb Dinger, Piano

Call to Worship: written by Blake Leyers which includes adapted passages from John O’Donohue:  led by Rev. John HillWe rush through our days in such stress and intensity, as if we were here to stay and the serious project of the world depended on us.
God calls us to slow down, be still, and know God’s presence.
We worry and grow anxious; we magnify trivial things until they become important enough to control our lives.
Worrying cannot add a single hour to our lives.  We cast aside worry and recognize God’s provision.
Yet all the time, we have forgotten that we are but temporary sojourners on the surface of a strange planet spinning slowly in the infinite night of the cosmos.
We accept God’s extravagant generosity and open ourselves to the peace that passes all understanding.*Call inspired by John O’Donohue—priest, philosopher, poet.
Response inspired by Luke 12: 1-34.
Hymns: Come, My Way, My Truth, My Life  and  Our God Saves
Come, My Way, My Truth, My LifeVerse 1
Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life:
such a way as gives us breath,
such a truth as ends all strife,
such a life as killeth death.Verse 2
Come, my Light, my Feast, my Strength:
such a light as shows a feast,
such a feast as mends in length,
such a strength as makes a guest.Verse 3
Come, my Joy, my Love, my Heart:
such a joy as none can move,
such a love as none can part,
such a heart as joys in love.

Our God Saves
Verse
In the name of the Father in the name of the Son
In the name of the Spirit Lord we come
We’re gather’d together to lift up Your name
To call on our Savior to fall on Your grace
Hear the joyful sound of our offering
As Your saints bow down as Your people sing
We will rise with You lifted on Your wings
And the world will see that

Chorus
Our God saves our God saves
There is hope in Your name
Mourning turns to songs of praise
Our God saves our God saves

Verse
In the name of the Father in the name of the Son
In the name of the Spirit Lord we come
We’re gather’d together to lift up Your name
To call on our Savior to fall on Your grace
Hear the joyful sound of our offering!
As Your saints bow down as Your people sing
We will rise with You lifted on Your wings
And the world will see that

Chorus
Our God saves our God saves
There is hope in Your name
Mourning turns to songs of praise
Our God saves our God saves

Chorus
Our God saves our God saves
There is hope in Your name
Mourning turns to songs of praise

Opening Prayer: written by Blake Leyers: led byRev. Chelsey Hedglin
Holy One, the struggles of today can be overwhelming. Too often we live on the surface, worrying for our future, wishing for greater fulfillment. We are uncomfortable with uncertainty. May we open ourselves to whatever arises, deepening the way we live by being present, knowing that You are right here with us and among us through highs and lows. You ask us to be willing and humble to receive generosity. Your extravagant generosity is an act of grace. May we answer the call to cast our worries upon You and, by Your grace, be undisturbed by stormy surroundings. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Sacrament of Holy Baptism
:Margaret Winnie Zei
daughter of Mike and Jessie Zei
sister of Louie Zeiled by Rev. Chelsey Hedglin:
Brothers and sisters in Christ:
Through the Sacrament of Baptism we are initiated into Christ’s holy church.
We are incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and Spirit.
All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.

led by Rev. John Hill addressing the parents:
On behalf of the whole church, I ask you:
Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sins?
(parents) I do.
Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves?
(parents)  I do.
Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in his grace, and promise to serve him as your Lord, in union with the church which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations, and races?
(parents)  I do.
Will you nurture this child in Christ’s holy church, that by your teaching and example they may be guided to accept God’s grace for themselves, to profess their faith openly, and to lead a Christian life?
(parents)  I do.

led by Rev. Chelsey Hedglin addressing the congregation:
Do you, as Christ’s body, the church, reaffirm both your rejection of sin and your commitment to Christ?
We do.
Will you nurture one another in the Christian faith and life and include this child now before you in your care?
With God’s help we will proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ.
We will surround this child with a community of love and forgiveness, that she may grow in her service to others.
We will pray for her that she may be a true disciple who walks in the way that leads to life.

Thanksgiving over the Water
:  Rev. John Hill

led by Rev. John Hill addressing the congregation:
Margaret Winnie Zei, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
The Holy Spirit work within you, that being born through water and the Spirit you may be a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Transfer of Membership:
 led by Rev. John Hill
Note: We are accepting Mike and Jessie Zei as new members of the Crievewood congregation transferring them from Highland Park UMC in Dallas.  Mike and Jessie now live in our neighborhood on Briarwood.  Please welcome them to the church family and community.

Congregational Pledge: led by Rev. Chelsey Hedglin
Members of the household of God, I commend this family to your love and care.  Do all in your power to increase their faith, confirm their hope, and perfect them in love.
With God’s help we will so order our lives after the example of Christ that, surrounded by steadfast love, you may be established in the faith, and confirmed and strengthened in the way that leads to life eternal.  Amen.

Scripture Reading:  Luke 12:13-34:  Rev. Chelsey HedglinSomeone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Friend, who set me to be a judge or arbitrator over you?” And he said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.” Then he told them a parable: “The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, ‘What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?’ Then he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God.”He said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? If then you are not able to do so small a thing as that, why do you worry about the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! And do not keep striving for what you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not keep worrying. For it is the nations of the world that strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them. Instead, strive for his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. “Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give alms. Make purses for yourselves that do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Invitation to the Table: Rev. Chelsey Hedglin
Prayer of Confession: Rev. Chelsey Hedgin
O God, the Holy Spirit, come to us, and among us; come as the wind, and cleanse us; come as the fire, and burn; come as the dew, and refresh; convict, convert, and consecrate many hearts and lives to our great good and to thy greater glory; and this we ask for Jesus Christ’s sake.  Amen.
Kyrie
Words of Assurance
Hear the Good News: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. That
proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
Glory to God! Amen.

The Great Thanksgiving: led by Rev. John Hill and Rev. Chelsey Hedglin
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you,  Almighty God, creator of heaven and earth.
You brought all things into being and called them good.
From the dust of the earth you formed us into your image and breathed into us the breath of life.
When we turned away, and our love failed, your love remained steadfast.
When the rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights, you bore up the ark on the waters, saved Noah and his family, and made covenant with every living creature on earth.
When you led your people to Mount Sinai for forty days and forty nights, you gave us your commandments and made us your covenant people.
When your people forsook your covenant, your prophet Elijah fasted for forty days and forty nights; and on your holy mountain, he heard your still small voice.
And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

Holy are you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ.
When you gave him to save us from our sin, your Spirit led him into the wilderness, where he fasted forty days and forty nights to prepare for his ministry.
When he suffered and died on a cross for our sin, you raised him to life, presented him alive to the apostles during forty days, and exalted him at your right hand.
By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection you gave birth to your Church, delivered us from slavery to sin and death, and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit,
Now, when we your people prepare for the yearly feast of Easter, you lead us to repentance for sin and the cleansing of our hearts, that during these forty days of Lent we may be gifted and graced to reaffirm the covenant you made with us through Christ.
On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: “Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
When supper was over, he took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said:
“Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.
Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and cup.
Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ, that we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood.
By your Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world, until Christ comes in final victory and we feast at his heavenly banquet.
Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy church, all honor and glory is yours, almighty God, now and for ever.
Amen.

On March 14 we will celebrate UMCOR Sunday, one of six special offerings in The United Methodist Church that supports ministries shared by all churches in the denomination. UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, acts on our behalf when there is a crisis.

From the Philippines to Pennsylvania, Brazil to Burundi, UMCOR works to meet people’s daily needs such as health care, food, hygiene and job security. UMCOR equips local churches, annual conferences and nonprofit organizations to be in mission with their communities, to respond to those left most vulnerable during challenging times. And UMCOR doesn’t just respond to the emergency for the short term. Working with local organizations, churches in the community and United Methodist volunteers, UMCOR builds relationships and helps communities rebuild in the years following a disaster.

UMCOR can do this because the funds given through UMCOR Sunday. Join with those millions of United    Methodists to help cover the costs of doing business. From training Conference Disaster Coordinators and    Early Response Teams to keeping the office lights on, the UMCOR Sunday special offering equips the           organization to respond quickly to disasters.

UMCOR’s 80-year history is grounded in the teachings of Jesus Christ to alleviate human suffering. Responding to people suffering from the effects of war, civil unrest, storms, wildfires, famines or floods, UMCOR steps in on your behalf in times of crisis to help individuals, families and communities too overwhelmed to recover on their own.
