John Hill Centering Music: Come and Fill This Place: Caleb Dinger, Piano Opening Prayer : Rev. Chelsey Hedglin Hymns: Hosanna and How Can We Name a Love Hosanna (Praise Is Rising) Verse 1 Praise is rising Eyes are turning to You We turn to You Hope is stirring Hearts are yearning for You We long for You Pre-chorus “Cause when we see You We find strength to face the day In Your presence All our fears are washed away Washed away Chorus Hosanna hosanna You are the God who saves us Worthy of all our praises Hosanna hosanna come have Your way among us We welcome You here Lord Jesus Verse 2 Hear the sound of Hearts returning to You We turn to You In Your Kingdom Broken lives are made new You make us new Repeat Pre-chorus and Chorus twice How Can We Name a Love How can we name a Love that wakens heart and mind, indwelling all we know or think or do or seek or find? Within our daily world, in every human face, Love’s echoes sound and God is found, hid in the commonplace. If we awoke to life built on a rock of care that asked no great reward but firm, assured, was simply there, we can, with parents’ names, describe, and thus adore, Love unconfined, our father kind, our mother strong and sure. When people share a task, and strength and skills unite in projects old or new, to make or do with shared delight, our Friend and Partner’s will is better understood, that all should share, create, and care, and know that life is good. So in a hundred names, each day we all can meet a presence, sensed and shown at work, at home, or in the street. Yet every name we see, shine in a brighter sun: In Christ alone is Love full grown and life and hope begun. Ministry Moment: Congregational Care Team Chair: Mary Bryan Scripture Reading: 1 Timothy 6:18-19: Rev. John Hill They are to do good, to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share, thus storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of the life that really is life. Chelsey Hedglin Kyrie Words of Assurance Hear the Good News: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. That proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Glory to God! Amen. Closing Hymn: The Gift of Love The Gift of LoveThough I may speak with bravest fire, and have the gift to all inspire, and have not love, my words are vain, as sounding brass, and hopeless gain. Though I may give all I possess, and striving so my love profess, but not be given by love within, the profit soon turns strangely thin. Come, Spirit, come, our hearts control, our spirits long to be made whole. Let inward love guide every deed; by this we worship, and are freed. Benediction: Rev. Chelsey Hedglin |

I who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send? Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if you lead me, I will hold your people in my heart. I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people’s pain. I have wept for love of them. They turn away. I will break their hearts of stone, give them hearts for love alone. I will speak my word to them. Whom shall I send? Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if you lead me, I will hold your people in my heart. I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame, I will set a feast for them. My hand will save. I will go, Lord if you lead me I will hold your people in my heart. The Servant Song Brother, sister, let me serve you, let me be as Christ to you; pray that I might have the grace to let you be my servant, too. We are pilgrims on a journey; we’re together on this road. We are here to help each other walk the mile and bear the load. I will hold the Christ-light for you in the night time of your fear; I will hold my hand out to you, speak the peace you long to hear. I will weep when you are weeping; when you laugh, I’ll laugh with you, I will share your joy and sorrow till we’ve seen this journey through. When we sing to God in heaven, we shall find such harmony, born of all we’ve known together of Christ’s love and agony. It’s how we conduct our worship as followers of Christ. We usually use the term to refer to the words we say and the actions we do together during a service of worship. It’s the prayers, the creeds, the sacraments, and the entire order of worship. It’s the idea that we are responding to God’s love and grace together as a community by offering worship to the Divine. There have been many strange things about being a pastor and leading in worship during the pandemic. Preaching to a tiny camera on an iPhone rather than to a room full of people is one of them. But I think even stranger than that for me has been the lack of the collective voice of the congregation during worship. When I pray the Lord’s Prayer or recite the Apostles’ Creed, I’m used to hearing a congregation say the words with me. When I remind you, “In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven,” it is so odd not to hear those words echoed back to me. It is strange that I can’t say, “The Lord be with you,” and hear in return, “And also with you.” Liturgy literally means “the work of the people” or “the work for the people.” It comes from the Greek word leitourgia, which is a mashup of laos (people; we get the term laity from it) and ergo (work, like ergonomic or energy). As we continue to worship God in the midst of a pandemic, the staff is striving to find ways for our worship to feel like more people are involved, like it is a communal act. We may not be able to hear everyone’s voice together, but there are steps we can take. You may have noticed that we’ve been having some of our leaders offer ministry moments during the service recently. You may also see people sharing their musical talents. One of the ways we’d like to incorporate the voice of the congregation into our worship is by having members of the congregation write pieces of the liturgy during the season of Lent. Our theme for Lent will be “Embracing the Uncertain,” and we’ll explore various stories from scripture in which people face uncertainty. We’d love to have as many contributions as possible. You could write a prayer, a poem, a reflection, a call to worship, anything really that has to do with uncertainty. I’m happy to work with you to come up with ideas or for you to simply send me something that you’ve written. Feel free to call or text me at 615-686-8381 or drop me an email at john@crievewoodumc.org. I’m excited to see the work we will all do together to worship God during this upcoming season.
