 Pastor’s Pen
For the month of May, our sermon series is called Imago Dei, which is Latin for “Image of God.” During this past Sunday’s worship service, we introduced this concept that underpins our understanding of what it means to be human. Over the next few weeks, we’ll explore the idea more and what implications it has for our life of faith. As part of the series our congregation will be weaving an altar cloth that we can use on the Communion Table in the sanctuary. We are grateful to Paige Dinger for building a loom for us to use in this process and who will finalize the cloth after the series is completed.

But before then, we need your help! We are inviting everyone to participate in the weaving together of this new altar cloth by bringing in materials from home to add to the altar cloth. You could bring in strips of fabric, ribbon, yarn, tassels, even buttons or beads. The fabric can be any material and come from anything – old clothes, sheets, towels, a table runner, a pillowcase, an apron, a necktie, a blanket, home decorations, art supplies or projects, and more. Feel free to bring as much material as you want. It would be great if you can cut the fabric into long strips at home, but if you need for that to happen at church we will have scissors and helpers available.

Our hope is to create something that simultaneously reminds us each of our own unique belovedness as well as the importance of being connected in community through Christ. We hope that the pieces you bring from home will have significance to you and that you’ll be able to identify them when you look at the finished altar cloth. We will also have some supplies and materials available at the church if you don’t have anything from home that you wish to bring (or if you forget). You are also welcome to write on your materials with a Sharpie something that would be meaningful to you – a scripture verse, a hymn, an important memory, names of loved ones, etc.

The loom is set up in the narthex at Crievewood, and you are welcome to come by the church anytime to add your materials to the altar cloth. The church office is open M-F 8:30-4:30. The best time for most folks will likely be before, during, and after worship on Sunday mornings at 9:30. You could also come during Farmin’ in the Hall on Thursday evenings from 4:30 to 7:00, or if you need to arrange another time, please contact the church office at 615-832-2897. If you would rather mail your material to the church, our address is 451 Hogan Rd, Nashville TN 37220. We hope that everyone who is part of Crievewood will be able to participate and contribute to the creation of this altar cloth.

I am excited to watch how this project develops and especially to see the finished altar cloth that will remind us that we are all connected to one another as beloved children of God. I do hope that you will participate in creating what promises to be a beautiful symbol for Crievewood for years to come.

Grace and peace,
John Hill   On Sunday, May 23, we will have our second congregation-wide conversation at 1:00 as part of Project Thrive. We will meet on Zoom for approximately two hours. Just like last time, we’ll be together as a large group at first to receive an overview and then break out into smaller groups, led by members of our Thrive Team, for conversation. We’ll hear some learnings from our first conversation and take a closer look at some information about our present reality – both inside the church and beyond our walls. You do not need to have been part of the first conversation to participate in this one. The Zoom information is below:

But more importantly, we hope you’ll join us for the conversation on May 23 at 1:00 whether or not you’ve RSVPed. Anyone 7th grade to 107 years old with a connection to Crievewood is welcome to participate!

 Mission Notes
Volunteers Needed to Run Video Equipment
New technology is being installed in the sanctuary that improves the worship experience of both those in the sanctuary and those worshiping at home. Part of this new equipment includes video cameras that will be remotely operated using a joystick controller. We are looking for a team of volunteers who would be willing to operate the cameras during the worship service and who would work on a rotating basis. We will provide training and need one person per week to volunteer. Our hope is to get a large base of volunteers and set up a schedule well in advance. If you might be interested in learning this skill and volunteering, please contact Rev. John Hill and/or Joe Buffler.

Mission and Service Team Leader Needed
We are currently without a leader for the Mission and Service Team to spearhead and organize our efforts in this important part of our ministry together as a church. If you would be interested in serving in this capacity for the remainder of 2021, please reach out to John or Chelsey.Any Crievewood member who is a student at a college, university, or trade school may apply or reapply for this scholarship. The scholarship’s purpose is to reward financial assistance to selected students who demonstrate service to their school or community and are motivated toward educational excellence.  Applications are available in the office.
