Online Worship continues on Facebook Sunday, August 23rd 10:45 am www.facebook.com/CrievewoodUMC/ Outdoor Worship at the church Sunday, August 30th at 8:30am Also Available: Online Worship Sunday, August 30th 10:45am through recording at www.facebook.com/CrievewoodUMC/Pastor’s Pen The Bible often mentions newness. “I am about to do a new thing” (Isaiah 43:19). “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23). “So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17). “See, I am making all things new” (Revelation 21:5). We are about to try a new thing here at Crievewood. Many of you filled out our COVID survey. If you haven’t yet, it’s not too late and you can do so by clicking on this link or the button below. The In-Person Worship Task Force met this past Sunday to review the results of the survey that we’ve already received. One of the questions we asked was about your comfort level around attending an outdoor worship service. Nearly half of the respondents indicated that they would be comfortable attending an outdoor service now, and more than a quarter more indicated that they would be comfortable once conditions improve a little. Given the interest from those responses and the current community situation and health guidelines, the task force decided that we would hold an outdoor worship service on Sunday, August 30, at 8:30 am. We decided to meet earlier in the morning than when we have been doing the Facebook Live stream because of the potential heat. If it is raining that day, we will do our indoor livestream (with no in-person congregation) instead and try the outdoor service another day. If you plan to attend the outdoor service, we ask that you wear a facemask, maintain a distance of 6 feet from anyone not in your household, and bring your own seating (camping chair, blanket, etc.). Our plan is to record the service and then post it to Facebook at 10:45 so that those not in attendance can experience it as well. We will evaluate how the service went afterwards and then decide whether (and how often) to continue this in the future. Thank you for your input and patience during this time as well as your openness to trying something new. We are seeking to balance the need for health and safety with the desire to gather in person as a faith community, and we believe that this is something worth trying. Additionally, we noticed some interest from the survey in creating virtual small groups. The staff will be working on this, and we’ll keep you posted about new opportunities. I, for one, am grateful that God is still up to new things here at Crievewood! Rev. John HillCrievewood SurveyCUMC Parent Support ZOOM meeting this Sunday at 6:00 pm. Your actions have reminded me of a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt in which she said, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, and today is present – that’s why we call it a gift.” You have been in our present, daily gifting us with your thoughts, prayers, calls, food, and concern, and we are very thankful. Gratefully, Carolyn PembertonOther Notes If you know a Crievewood member who is not able to view Sunday services on Facebook, please call Kathryn Buffler at 615-598-5998. CD’s are made weekly and can be delivered so that all our members can at least hear the Sunday worship service. Crievewood has begun a ministry partnership with St. Mary of Bethany Anglican Parish. Once our building is ready for in-person worship, they will be using our sanctuary space to hold their service each Sunday at 4:00 pm. Meanwhile you may see them in the parking lot for outdoor worship and study. We also look forward to opportunities for joint ministry with their congregation in spreading the love of Jesus throughout our city. Jan will be on vacation August 24 to August 28. Other staff members will be working in the church office area intermittently. If you need access to the building during that week, please call the church office first (615-832-2807) to assure that someone is present to open the door.Still looking for more information?
