Pastor’s Pen
There is much going on in the life of Crievewood – a testimony to God at work in our midst. I pray that each of you is healthy and well and look forward to connecting soon. Here are some updates about our life together as a congregation:

We resumed in-person worship in the sanctuary this past Sunday. It was so wonderful to see faces (well, half of faces because the other half was covered by masks) in the congregation! We had 51 in attendance, and it seemed like everyone did a good job wearing their masks and keeping social distance. We will continue to livestream the worship service on Facebook for those who choose not to attend in-person on Sunday morning.

At the recommendation of the Trustees and with a plan created by our finance folks, the Administrative Council has approved the purchase and installation of some much-needed technology upgrades for the sanctuary. The equipment will hopefully be installed within a month or two and will create a better experience for both those worshiping at home and in the sanctuary. It includes multiple video cameras, a video switcher, a hard-wired device for streaming, a digital sound board, some new microphones, a television monitor on the back wall, and an upgrade to our wifi system. Several folks have donated to this project, and I am so grateful for your generosity! Prior to the pandemic, Crievewood had two worship services. During the pandemic, the style of these services has been blended into a single service. The Worship Team met and is recommending that we continue this practice for now and move the start time to 9:30 am. The Administrative Council will take up this recommendation at its next meeting. If you want to provide input, please contact anyone serving on Admin Council. We’ll keep you posted about whatever decision is made and when changes would take place.

It is a joy to worship with you each Sunday. We’ll continue to monitor the situation, follow the lead of God’s Spirit, and seek creative ways for us to engage in this important practice and part of our congregational life. May we “Embrace the Uncertain” and know that God is still at work and to be praised!
Grace and peace,
John Hill
Missions
 TP Sunday
Crievewood continues its mission to aid Community Care Fellowship by contributing toilet paper to the facility.  The next TP Sunday is March 7.  Please leave your donation in the narthex or drop it off at the drive up communion.  Thank you for your support of Nashville’s homeless through this mission.
 Easter Memorials
This Easter you may honor loved ones two ways through the memorial Easter offering.  Plants which decorate worship may be ordered as a memorial.  A second way to honor a loved one would be to simply give a money donation. All flower gifts honoring loved ones and all monetary gifts will be acknowledged.

The Easter flower envelopes are available in the narthex if you visit the church, or you may simply send in a request through online giving or through a check sent by regular mail.  Please make sure to include the following information:  your name, the person’s name that you wish to honor or remember, whether the gift is a monetary or plant donation, and if a plant memorial, how many are being requested.  If you give a donation online, you may not be able to provide all that information.  Please follow up an online donation with a phone call to the office (615-832-2897) or an email to janbassett@crievewoodumc.org to complete all information.  For those who wish to send a check, the church’s address is Crievewood UMC, 451 Hogan Road, Nashville, TN 37220.

If you want a plant, the minimum donation is $12.50 per plant.  Any Easter memorial money collected this year will be applied to youth and young adult summer mission internships. The deadline to place an order either way is Palm Sunday.

To the friends and family of Sylvia Cantrell:
We are incredibly grateful for the condolences and kind words we’ve received in the weeks since Sylvia’s passing.  In lieu of a memorial service at this time, we wish to honor her life by sharing a couple of passages that were meaningful to her.

Sylvia was an avid gardener who cherished watching her hard work come to fruition each spring, as well as the wildlife that equally delighted in the fruits of her labor.  The two passages exemplify her appreciation for the wisdom found within nature, and her commitment to enjoying life’s small moments.  We hope reading them makes you smile and think of Sylvia.

We’ve also sent packets of Forget-Me-Not seeds.  Our hope is that come spring, you may find a sunny spot to plant them in her memory.

With love and gratitude,
Sylvia’s family

The passages mentioned in this letter are displayed in one of the wall frames in the narthex hallway for you to read.  The forget-me-not seeds will be planted on the church grounds under the church sign.Still looking for more information?  Below are links that may help.

Worship Order
Words of Welcome: Rev. Chelsey Hedglin

Centering Music:  We Have Been Told: Caleb Dinger, Piano

Call to Worship: written by Blake Leyers which includes adapted passages from John O’Donohue:  led by Rev. John HillWe rush through our days in such stress and intensity, as if we were here to stay and the serious project of the world depended on us.
God calls us to slow down, be still, and know God’s presence.
We worry and grow anxious; we magnify trivial things until they become important enough to control our lives.
Worrying cannot add a single hour to our lives.  We cast aside worry and recognize God’s provision.
Yet all the time, we have forgotten that we are but temporary sojourners on the surface of a strange planet spinning slowly in the infinite night of the cosmos.
We accept God’s extravagant generosity and open ourselves to the peace that passes all understanding.*Call inspired by John O’Donohue—priest, philosopher, poet.
Response inspired by Luke 12: 1-34.
Hymns: Come, My Way, My Truth, My Life  and  Our God Saves
Come, My Way, My Truth, My LifeVerse 1
Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life:
such a way as gives us breath,
such a truth as ends all strife,
such a life as killeth death.Verse 2
Come, my Light, my Feast, my Strength:
such a light as shows a feast,
such a feast as mends in length,
such a strength as makes a guest.Verse 3
Come, my Joy, my Love, my Heart:
such a joy as none can move,
such a love as none can part,
such a heart as joys in love.

Our God Saves
Verse
In the name of the Father in the name of the Son
In the name of the Spirit Lord we come
We’re gather’d together to lift up Your name
To call on our Savior to fall on Your grace
Hear the joyful sound of our offering
As Your saints bow down as Your people sing
We will rise with You lifted on Your wings
And the world will see that

Chorus
Our God saves our God saves
There is hope in Your name
Mourning turns to songs of praise
Our God saves our God saves

Verse
In the name of the Father in the name of the Son
In the name of the Spirit Lord we come
We’re gather’d together to lift up Your name
To call on our Savior to fall on Your grace
Hear the joyful sound of our offering!
As Your saints bow down as Your people sing
We will rise with You lifted on Your wings
And the world will see that

Chorus
Our God saves our God saves
There is hope in Your name
Mourning turns to songs of praise
Our God saves our God saves

Opening Prayer: written by Blake Leyers: led byRev. Chelsey Hedglin
Holy One, the struggles of today can be overwhelming. Too often we live on the surface, worrying for our future, wishing for greater fulfillment. We are uncomfortable with uncertainty. May we open ourselves to whatever arises, deepening the way we live by being present, knowing that You are right here with us and among us through highs and lows. You ask us to be willing and humble to receive generosity. Your extravagant generosity is an act of grace. May we answer the call to cast our worries upon You and, by Your grace, be undisturbed by stormy surroundings. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Sacrament of Holy Baptism
:Margaret Winnie Zei
daughter of Mike and Jessie Zei
sister of Louie Zeiled by Rev. Chelsey Hedglin:
Brothers and sisters in Christ:
Through the Sacrament of Baptism we are initiated into Christ’s holy church.
We are incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and Spirit.
All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.

led by Rev. John Hill addressing the parents:
On behalf of the whole church, I ask you:
Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sins?
(parents) I do.
Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves?
(parents)  I do.
Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in his grace, and promise to serve him as your Lord, in union with the church which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations, and races?
(parents)  I do.
Will you nurture this child in Christ’s holy church, that by your teaching and example they may be guided to accept God’s grace for themselves, to profess their faith openly, and to lead a Christian life?
(parents)  I do.

led by Rev. Chelsey Hedglin addressing the congregation:
Do you, as Christ’s body, the church, reaffirm both your rejection of sin and your commitment to Christ?
We do.
Will you nurture one another in the Christian faith and life and include this child now before you in your care?
With God’s help we will proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ.
We will surround this child with a community of love and forgiveness, that she may grow in her service to others.
We will pray for her that she may be a true disciple who walks in the way that leads to life.

Thanksgiving over the Water
:  Rev. John Hill

led by Rev. John Hill addressing the congregation:
Margaret Winnie Zei, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
The Holy Spirit work within you, that being born through water and the Spirit you may be a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Transfer of Membership:
 led by Rev. John Hill
Note: We are accepting Mike and Jessie Zei as new members of the Crievewood congregation transferring them from Highland Park UMC in Dallas.  Mike and Jessie now live in our neighborhood on Briarwood.  Please welcome them to the church family and community.

Congregational Pledge: led by Rev. Chelsey Hedglin
Members of the household of God, I commend this family to your love and care.  Do all in your power to increase their faith, confirm their hope, and perfect them in love.
With God’s help we will so order our lives after the example of Christ that, surrounded by steadfast love, you may be established in the faith, and confirmed and strengthened in the way that leads to life eternal.  Amen.

Scripture Reading:  Luke 12:13-34:  Rev. Chelsey HedglinSomeone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Friend, who set me to be a judge or arbitrator over you?” And he said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.” Then he told them a parable: “The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, ‘What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?’ Then he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God.”He said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? If then you are not able to do so small a thing as that, why do you worry about the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! And do not keep striving for what you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not keep worrying. For it is the nations of the world that strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them. Instead, strive for his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. “Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give alms. Make purses for yourselves that do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Sermon: The Uncertainty of Worry: Rev. John Hill

Instrumental Reflection: His Eye Is on the Sparrow: Caleb Dinger, Piano

Pastoral Prayer: Rev. Chelsey Hedglin
Invitation to Offer Tithes and Gifts: Rev. Chelsey Hedglin
https://onrealm.org/CrievewoodUMC/Give

Offertory Anthem: Heaven Help Me:  Steven Rackard, Vocalist

Invitation to the Table: Rev. Chelsey Hedglin
Prayer of Confession: Rev. Chelsey Hedgin
O God, the Holy Spirit, come to us, and among us; come as the wind, and cleanse us; come as the fire, and burn; come as the dew, and refresh; convict, convert, and consecrate many hearts and lives to our great good and to thy greater glory; and this we ask for Jesus Christ’s sake.  Amen.
Kyrie
Words of Assurance
Hear the Good News: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. That
proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
Glory to God! Amen.

The Great Thanksgiving: led by Rev. John Hill and Rev. Chelsey Hedglin
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you,  Almighty God, creator of heaven and earth.
You brought all things into being and called them good.
From the dust of the earth you formed us into your image and breathed into us the breath of life.
When we turned away, and our love failed, your love remained steadfast.
When the rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights, you bore up the ark on the waters, saved Noah and his family, and made covenant with every living creature on earth.
When you led your people to Mount Sinai for forty days and forty nights, you gave us your commandments and made us your covenant people.
When your people forsook your covenant, your prophet Elijah fasted for forty days and forty nights; and on your holy mountain, he heard your still small voice.
And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

Holy are you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ.
When you gave him to save us from our sin, your Spirit led him into the wilderness, where he fasted forty days and forty nights to prepare for his ministry.
When he suffered and died on a cross for our sin, you raised him to life, presented him alive to the apostles during forty days, and exalted him at your right hand.
By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection you gave birth to your Church, delivered us from slavery to sin and death, and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit,
Now, when we your people prepare for the yearly feast of Easter, you lead us to repentance for sin and the cleansing of our hearts, that during these forty days of Lent we may be gifted and graced to reaffirm the covenant you made with us through Christ.
On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: “Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
When supper was over, he took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said:
“Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.
Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and cup.
Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ, that we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood.
By your Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world, until Christ comes in final victory and we feast at his heavenly banquet.
Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy church, all honor and glory is yours, almighty God, now and for ever.
Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Holy Communion

Closing Hymn: I’m So Glad Jesus Lifted Me
I’m So Glad Jesus Lifted MeVerse 1
I’m so glad, Jesus lifted me,
I’m so glad, Jesus lifted me,
I’m so glad, Jesus lifted me,
singing glory, hallelujah, Jesus lifted me.Verse 2
Satan had me bound, Jesus lifted me,
Satan had me bound, Jesus lifted me,
Satan had me bound, Jesus lifted me,
singing glory, hallelujah, Jesus lifted me.Verse 3
When I was in trouble, Jesus lifted me,
When I was in trouble, Jesus lifted me,

God is merciful, and gives us hope.
Even when we doubt and are uncertain.
Through the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus, we are forgiven.

We ask, ‘can we bring ourselves to forgive?’.
God is the waymaker.
God shows us the path ahead.

Opening Prayer: written by Matt Sevier: led byRev. Chelsey Hedglin
God of might and mercy, you call us to be a forgiving people.  The gift of forgiveness helps us to keep our community together, so that brother and sister might be reconciled as one.  As you have loved us, help us to love one another and take hope in the ultimate realization of your kingdom.  We ask this in the name of the risen Christ, our savior, Amen.
Scripture Reading:  Matthew 18:21-22:  Rev. Chelsey Hedglin
Then Peter came and said to him, “Lord, if another member of the church sins against me, how often should I forgive? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven times.

Prayer of Confession: written by Matt Sevier: led by Rev. John Hill
Lord Jesus Christ, son of the living God, have mercy on us for we are sinners.  We say that we love you, even though we have not seen you, but we have failed to love those who walk beside us every day.  As you forgive our sins, help us to forgive, and to be forgiven by, our brothers and sisters.  Help us to see you in the face of others, so that we might be reminded of the certainty you provide us for what is ahead.  Amen.

Kyrie: Rich in Mercy:  words and music by Caleb DingerI believe in God,
who is rich in mercy, mercy
I believe in God,
who is rich in mercy, mercywho is slow to anger
who abounds in love
who is slow to anger
who abounds in love

(Repeat above stanzas)Have mercy upon us
in your mercy forgive us.
Have mercy upon us
in your mercy forgive us Lord.
Words of Assurance
Hear the Good News: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. That
proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
Glory to God! Amen.

Closing Hymn: Forgive Our Sins As We Forgive
Forgive Our Sins As We Forgive
Verse 1
“Forgive our sins as we forgive,”
you taught us, Lord, to pray;
but you alone can grant us grace
to live the words we say.

Verse 2
How can your pardon reach and bless
the unforgiving heart
that broods on wrongs and will not let
old bitterness depart?

Verse 3
In blazing light your cross reveals
the truth we dimly knew:
what trivial debts are owed to us,
how great our debt to you!

Verse 4
Lord, cleanse the depths within our souls,
and bid resentment cease;
then, bound to all in bonds of love,
our lives will spread your peace.
   Benediction:  Rev. John Hill

Call to Worship: written by Carolyn Binford: led by Rev. John Hill
In these times Lord may we be open to your presence!
We come searching for you, O Lord!
We try to be strong and depend upon you, but we are impatient!
We come to You wanting and waiting, O Lord!
Help us to love each other as You have loved us.
We accept your generous love, O Lord!
Through your Word equip us to face the world around us, which can at times be frightening.
We come to you seeking your Comfort, O Lord!
Let us forgive each other as you have forgiven us.
In your Name let us find forgiveness, O Lord!
Glory to God!  Amen!

I was taught that you would always be with me, but somehow, I got lost.
I went my own way! But somehow you found me again and again!
You were still there, but I left, you did not!
Just when I thought I was really lost, there You were again!
Thank you Lord for staying by my side, even when I was so lost!
Praise God!

*based on Hebrews 13:5b: Never will I leave you: never will I forsake you.

Hymns:  By Faith and Silence, Frenzied, Unclean Spirit
 By Faith
Verse 1
By faith we see the hand of God
In the light of Creation’s grand design
In the lives of those who prove God’s faithfulness
Who walk by faith and not by sight

Verse 2
By faith our fathers roamed the earth
With the power of God’s promise in their hearts
Of a holy city built by God’s own hand
A place where peace and justice reign

Chorus
We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on God our soul’s reward
Till the race is finished and the work is done
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight

Verse 3
By faith the prophets saw a day
When the longed-for Messiah would appear
With the power to break the chains of sin and death
And rise triumphant from the grave

Verse 4
By faith the church was called to go
In the power of the Spirit to the lost
To deliver captives and to preach good news
In every corner of the earth

Repeat Chorus

Verse 5
By faith the mountain shall be moved
And the power of the gospel shall prevail
For we know in Christ all things are possible
For all who call upon His name

Repeat Chorus

Silence, Frenzied, Unclean Spirit
Verse 1
“Silence, frenzied, unclean spirit!”
cried God’s healing Holy One.
“Cease your ranting! Flesh can’t bear it;
flee as night before the sun.”
At Christ’s words the demon trembled,
from its victim madly rushed,
while the crowd that was assembled
stood in wonder, stunned and hushed.

Verse 2
Lord, the demons still are thriving
in the gray cells of the mind:
tyrant voices, shrill and driving,
twisted thoughts that grip and bind,
doubts that stir the heart to panic,
fears distorting reason’s sight,
guilt that makes our loving frantic,
dreams that cloud the soul with fright.

Verse 3
Silence, Lord, the unclean spirit
in our mind and in our heart;
speak your word that when we hear it,
all our demons shall depart.
Clear our thought and calm our feeling;
still the fractured, warring soul.
By the power of your healing
make us faithful, true, and whole.

Opening Prayer: written by Barry Coggins: led byRev. Chelsey Hedglin
 I Choose to Believe
Still small voice living inside us all
We can hear the words if we choose to call
It’s a sleepless night, a waking dream
We’re all dead men walking to a place unseen
Timeless, wondrous, mysterious
A spirit, you can feel it, I choose to believe

For all the comfort in times of need
For all the things that I feel but can’t see
There’s a way to get past the noise
Is God the voice?
You make your own choice
I choose to believe

Big blue ball, ocean all around
It’s a fragile home, it’s our common ground
Heaven sent, all this air we breathe
Warmed by a ball of fire all our senses need
Birthright, sunlight, moonlight
Every season, there’s a reason, I choose to believe

For every baby that makes me smile
For every day that I walk another mile
There’s a way to get past the noise
To God the voice?
You can make your choice
I choose to believe

Scripture Reading:  Mark 9:14-29:  Rev. Chelsey Hedglin

When they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them. When the whole crowd saw him, they were immediately overcome with awe, and they ran forward to greet him. He asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?” Someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought you my son; he has a spirit that makes him unable to speak; and whenever it seizes him, it dashes him down; and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid; and I asked your disciples to cast it out, but they could not do so.” He answered them, “You faithless generation, how much longer must I be among you? How much longer must I put up with you? Bring him to me.” And they brought the boy to him. When the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. It has often cast him into the fire and into the water, to destroy him; but if you are able to do anything, have pity on us and help us.” Jesus said to him, “If you are able! —All things can be done for the one who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out, “I believe; help my unbelief!” When Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You spirit that keeps this boy from speaking and hearing, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again!” After crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, “He is dead.” But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he was able to stand. When he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” He said to them, “This kind can come out only through prayer.”

Because of weather, Ash Wednesday worship activities have been rescheduled so that everyone might participate safely.

On Wednesday, February 24thwe will offer a drive through imposition of ashes from 5-6 p.m. in the CUMC upper parking lot and an online Ash Wednesday worship service at 6:30 p.m on Facebook.  Access the online service at https://www.facebook.com/CrievewoodUMC/.

The joint outdoor Ash Wednesday service at noon has been canceled.Pastor’s Pen
Lent is the season of preparation leading up to Easter in the church calendar. Unlike Advent and its joyful expectation of Christmas, Lent invites us into a time of self-reflection, penitence, and even self-sacrifice. Our theme for Lent this year is “Embracing the Uncertain.” It feels almost too on the nose with the pandemic, the snow storm, and everything else going on in the world. The title comes from a book of the same name by Magrey deVega, a United Methodist pastor in Florida. Each week in worship, we’ll look at a different story from the Gospels of Jesus on his journey to Jerusalem (and ultimately the cross) in which he encounters a different form of uncertainty. Each worship service will also include some liturgy written by members of Crievewood (it’s not too late to send me something if you’re interested).

Our Tuesday morning Bible study will use the book “Embracing the Uncertain” during Lent, and Leigh Ann Cate will lead a virtual study of the book on Zoom on Wednesday evenings at 6:30. Chelsey is preparing a self-guided Stations of the Cross that will be in the main hallway of the church for the entirety of Lent. You are welcome to come by any time the church is open to experience these interactive and contemplative stations. As always, please make sure that you wear a mask and maintain a safe distance from any others who are in the building

Because of the snow storm, the bitter cold, and the impassibility of the roads, we have decided to postpone all of our Ash Wednesday activities until next week. Ash Wednesday usually marks the beginning of Lent, but this year – as we embrace the uncertain – we’ll remember our mortality and need for God’s grace a week into the season of Lent instead. We will offer a drive-through imposition of ashes from 5:00 to 6:00 pm and a livestream Ash Wednesday service on Facebook at 6:30 pm that you can watch live or catch the recording later. Note that our noon service with St. Mary of Bethany will not be taking place.

I often give up something during the season of Lent. This practice of fasting or abstinence or self-denial has a long history within the church, and you may feel called to that practice this year. With all that we’ve already had to give up over the past year, though, I’m feeling called to take on something during Lent this year rather than give up something. As I’ve prayed about what practice to take on, I’ve landed on intentionally making contact with one person outside of my household each day. As an introvert, it’s easy for me to just hang out at home and keep to myself during the pandemic and the winter. At the same time, I find myself longing for connection with others. My intention is to make a video or phone call, send a note, or maybe even meet up with someone in a safe way each day until Easter. I hope you’ll give some thought and prayer to a practice that you can take up during Lent, and I’d love to hear how it goes.

Grace and peace,

10::45 am In Person Indoor Worship

Please see the article belowCOVID TASK FORCE UPDATE
Crievewood will resume in-person worship in the Sanctuary on Sunday, February 28, at 10:45 am. Our COVID Task Force met on February 16 and made this decision in light of the positive trends here in Nashville. The worship service will continue to be livestreamed on our Facebook page. As always, you can watch live or catch the recording anytime later. Since we’ll be offering indoor in-person worship, we will no longer be holding an outdoor service. We will continue the practice and policy of requiring masks in the building, maintaining social distance of at least 6 feet from those not in your household, and cleaning spaces after usage. If you feel comfortable, we look forward to seeing you in person starting on February 28.Patience with Live-Streamed WorshipWe are grateful for the technology that allows us to share and experience worship in our homes during this time. Any time we use technology, though, there is a chance that it will not perform up to our expectations. If you are watching the worship service as it is being streamed live on Sunday morning on Facebook, the video may sometimes pause and you may get a message like “Live Feed Interrupted.” This indicates an issue with the video being transmitted over the internet and not a problem with your computer or other device. The best thing to do is to simply wait (sometimes even a minute or longer) and let the problem correct itself. There is no need to refresh or restart. When the feed comes back on its own, it will be right where it left off. If you refresh or restart, you will resume in the current space in the service rather than where the stream froze. We hope this tip helps!

Also, you can always find a recorded version of our worship services, including past worship services, on our Facebook page by clicking on the “videos” tabMissions
